Developed by Radical Entertainment and Vivendi Universal Games in 2003, it was the franchise’s chaotic answer to Grand Theft Auto. Players tore through Springfield completing ridiculous missions, dodging the cops, and enjoying every bit of its yellow-tinted mayhem.
Despite becoming a cult classic, a true sequel to Hit & Run never materialized — though fans have kept its spirit alive through mods. In fact, there’s even a clever Futurama mod worth checking out if you have the PC version.
But if you don’t, good news — Fortnite is about to deliver something that might fill that gap.
Fortnite’s Simpsons Crossover Is Channeling Hit & Run Energy
Epic Games is gearing up for a limited-time The Simpsons season in Fortnite’s battle royale, and early leaks suggest it’s tapping right into Hit & Run’s chaotic charm.
Though Epic is keeping details secret, leaks have already surfaced — including key art featuring Homer, Marge, Bart, Moe, Ned, and Krusty, all keeping their authentic Simpsons art style rather than the usual Fortnite treatment. That creative choice alone makes you wonder what kind of visual direction this season will take.
Even Fortnite’s iconic banana, Peely, is reportedly joining the fun — this time with a Simpsons-inspired twist. The maps also tease subtle humor, replacing Springfield’s famous Kwik-E-Mart with the aptly named Burd-E-Mart.
Exploring Springfield in Fortnite
An early map leak reveals that players will be able to freely explore a full-scale Springfield — including landmarks like the Power Plant, Burns Manor, and Evergreen Terrace.
Unlike the recent Star Wars: Galactic Battle season, the Simpsons event won’t merely add themed locations to the existing Chapter 6 map. Instead, it will mark the end of Chapter 6 entirely, paving the way for a fresh start once Fortnitemares wraps up.
The Simpsons season is expected to run for around four weeks — a short but sweet bridge leading into Chapter 7.
A Nostalgic Return to Springfield
If you grew up with The Simpsons: Hit & Run, this upcoming Fortnite event promises to hit all the right nostalgic notes. Whether it’s cruising the streets of Springfield again or just wreaking cartoon chaos, it’s the closest we’ve come to a true sequel in over two decades.
Bring it on.
