Gemini Arrives in Chrome for iOS: Hands-on but Not for Everyone

Google is expanding its AI reach once again. After adding Gemini features to Chrome on Android, the company is now testing Gemini directly inside the Chrome app for iOS — a first for Apple users.

The new feature introduces an “Ask Gemini” button in Chrome’s Page Tools menu. With it, users can ask questions about the current webpage, generate quick summaries, or even create FAQ lists based on the page content — all without leaving the browser.

To enable Gemini in Chrome for iOS, users must first grant permission to share webpage data with Google. This allows Gemini to understand the page’s context and provide more accurate, helpful responses.

Once enabled, Gemini responses come with built-in feedback tools. After reviewing an AI-generated summary or answer, users can mark whether a reply was helpful or not. Chrome also lets you copy or highlight text from Gemini’s output, making it easy to quote or share information elsewhere. Screenshots shared by early testers show each step of the setup process and how Gemini integrates into the Chrome interface.

Within the Page Tools menu, two new options appear: “Search screen” and “Ask Gemini.” Selecting Gemini opens a setup prompt titled “Get answers faster with Gemini in Chrome.”

For privacy and customization, a dedicated “Gemini in Chrome” section is now found under Chrome’s settings. There, users can manage data-sharing preferences and activity controls. Additionally, an “Ask Gemini” entry in the main app settings offers another way to access the Gemini panel.

If you’re looking for the fastest way to try it, the Page Tools menu remains the primary access point for Gemini on iOS.

Alongside Gemini integration, Google is also testing two more AI-powered features in Chrome: Smart Tab Grouping and AI Mode. Smart Tab Grouping automatically organizes open tabs by topic or task, while AI Mode enhances the browser bar with improved search and suggestion tools — continuing Google’s broader push toward an AI-driven browsing experience.
